The Music Education program prepares outstanding music teachers to meet the challenges of educating today’s diverse student population.

Music Education majors who successfully complete the program and pass the Praxis Music Content Knowledge exam will receive institutional recommendation, which is required to apply for a teaching certificate in Delaware and other states.
Students choose one of the following tracks/concentrations:

Instrumental track with Principal Instrument Concentration (including Piano)
Music Education majors begin taking music education courses in their freshman year and practicum teaching experiences in their junior year. Music, music education, and practicum courses are purposefully sequenced to maximize students’ classroom music teaching experiences. By sequencing and integrating students’ coursework and practicum experiences in this way, Music Education majors quickly build proficiency and confidence in their music teaching abilities, and are prepared to teach music in a wide variety of school settings.
